The 10K Route = 2K Road, 3K Cross Country, 5K Road
The start (and finish) is at Oldmeldrum Academy leading on to the fields at the foot of the Barra Hill where you will enter the cross country section of the course. We would urge caution on this section where you will be running on uneven ground.
The climb to the summit of Barra Hill is about 1km and from there you will enjoy panoramic views of Aberdeenshire. The route then takes you onto the Bourtie Road for a fast, downhill second half road section of the course as you wind back into Oldmeldrum.
The entire route will be well signposted and supported by marshals every step of the way.
£23 affiliated runners (Scottish Athletics Members)
£25 non-affiliated runners (This entry fee is compulsory and provides you with race insurance for the day)
In order to run the Barra 10K, you must be minimum 16 years old on the day of the race.
Prizes
Please note from 2026, we are changing our approach to prizes. When the Barra 10K started many years ago, we loved having prizes for all categories. The Event has grown and now with 3 races, there would be the requirement for almost 100 prizes if we were to cover all categories. We just don't feel this is proportionate and the podium prizegiving would be out of hand!
There will be prizes for overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd Female / Male (open) for all 3 races.
Please note Thistle Timing will show category places in the results.
Water Stops
One water stop will be in place just before the half way mark at the beginning of the descent on the Bourtie Road in the Barra 10K.
Timing chips are on your race number and results will be posted on http://www.thistletiming.co.uk straight after the race.
Limited parking is available at Meldrum Academy. We would encourage those who live locally to walk where possible to ease congestion. Once details are confirmed with local businesses and Meldrum Academy, Marshals will be on hand in the morning to organise event parking in the following locations:
1. Meldrum Academy
2. Meldrum Medical Practice
3. Hoodles Childcare
4. Glenrock
5. Within Meldrum Business Industrial Estate
6. Meldrum Primary School (5 minute Walk)
We have the use of facilities at Meldrum Academy - toilets and changing rooms are available.
We will have a bag drop available on the day. When you pick up your race number at registration, there will be a baggage strip attached. Simply tear off the baggage strip, attach it to your bag and take it to Bag Drop Gazebo where we will safely store your bag until after the race.
ROADS ARE OPEN. There are a few road crossings as you leave and return to Meldrum Academy, all of which will be heavily marshalled. However, the roads will not be closed and marshals do not have the authority to stop traffic. The marshals are there to support you, but ultimately it is the responsibility of each and every runner to cross the road safely.
5K / 10K / Half - Medal, Water, Chocolate, KWS Buff
Junior Funruns - Medal, Water, Sweeties
Yes if you so wish but bone conductor only please - we are on open roads so we need you to be listening out for traffic!
Why not? BUT.....not in the thick of the race. If you plan on running with your 4 legged friend we ask you start at the very back and let the race take off and jog slowly at the back. You are then free to carefully make your way through the course if you so wish. But we cannot allow you to race competitively with your dog or be in amongst the body of the race. Your dog must be on the lead at all times, and you must be prepped to pick up all poop.
Unfortunately we cannot allow wheel chairs to enter as part of the planned route because the Barra Estate is not suitable and is impassable with a wheel chair. However, if you are a wheel chair user, and you are keen to participate, we would love to accommodate in some way. Please email us on info@kayleighsweestars.co.uk and we will work together to create an appropriate route.
Myles Edwards - 34.22 (2023)
Emma Murray - 40.16 (2022)
We are hugely grateful for the support of our sponsors. Their contributions mean that absolutely all of the money raised from this event’s entry fee, will be going directly to families where there is a child with a terminal diagnosis. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2027.
This beautiful 5K skirts across the edge of the Barra Estate. Your route is the same is the 10K for the first two kilometres. When the 10K turns right to head up to the Barra Hill half way along the farm track, you will carry straight on before making a left to turn back along Millburn Road. You then retrace your steps to return the Meldrum Academy Park to our big pink finish line! Whilst this would still be classed as mixed terrain, you could get a way with road shoes. The first and last 2km is good tarmac surface. The middle km is gravelly farm track path. Choice of shoe may well depend on the weather.
£18 affiliated runners (Scottish Athletics Members)
£20 non-affiliated runners (This entry fee is compulsory and provides you with race insurance for the day)

It is the very first ever Barra Half Marathon!
With 1000ft of ascent, the Barra Half is not for the faint hearted! You will head off along Blankets track as per the 5K and 10K runners, but heading to the end of the track and turning right to head out the Bourtie Road in reverse - don't worry we are not sending you up the Barra Hill as in in the 10K!
You will pass the water stop around 4 miles as you make your way around the beautiful back of Bourtie country roads. (Remember roads are open) After making a couple of left turns, you will work your way around the anti clockwise loop and eventually get to Mill O Thornton Farm around the 8 mile mark. There you will find the second water stop, volunteers, tunes, a portaloo, a chance to refuel, but most importantly pick up your coveted Barra Half Bracelet!
You will then be heading home, picking up the second half of the Barra 10K route as you retrace your steps back to base.
£28 affiliated runners (Scottish Athletics Members)
£30 non-affiliated runners (This entry fee is compulsory and provides you with race insurance for the day)
Water Stops
You have a water stop at 4 miles and another at Mill O Thornton Farm at 8 Miles. There will also be a portaloo at this stop at Mill O Thornton Farm.
