The 5th KWS Barra 10K will be held on Saturday the 30th of May 2020. This is a challenging cross country trail over the Barra Hill and we are looking to build on the success of what was a fantastic event last year.
Active Schools will again be organising junior races prior to the 10K.
We have been fortunate to have the support of many local businesses who are sponsoring this event. All monies raised from this 10K will go directly to the families in need of support.
The 10K Route = 2K Road, 3K Cross Country, 5K Road
The start (and finish) is at Oldmeldrum Academy leading on to the fields at the foot of the Barra Hill. At this point, you will enter the cross country section of the course where extra caution must be taken as you will be running on uneven ground.
The climb to the summit of Barra Hill is about 1km and from there you will enjoy panoramic views of Aberdeenshire. The route then takes you onto the Bourtie Road for a fast, downhill second half road section of the course as you wind back into Oldmeldrum.
The entire route will be well signposted and heavily marshalled.
£18.00 affiliated runners (Scottish Athletics Members)
£20.00 non-affiliated runners (This is compulsory and provides you with race insurance for the day)
We have men’s and women’s categories for prizes – there will be no specific age group categories. In order to run the Barra 10K, you must be minimum 16 years or old on the day of the race.
Men’s 1st, 2nd 3rd
Women’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd
One water stop will be in place just before the half way mark at the beginning of the descent on the Bourtie Road.
Timing chips are on your race number and results will be posted on http://www.thistletiming.co.uk straight after the race.

Ample parking will be available at Meldrum Academy. We would encourage those who live locally to walk where possible to ease congestion. Marshals will be on hand in the morning to organise event parking in the following locations:
1. Meldrum Academy
2. Meldrum Medical Practice
3. Hoodles Childcare
5. Within Meldrum Business Indusrial Estate
7. Millburn Road
We have full use of Meldrum Academy facilities for the morning – changing rooms and toilets.
We will have a bag drop available on the day. When you pick up your race number at registration, there will be a baggage strip attached. Simply tear off the baggage strip, attach it to your bag and take it to the lorry trailer where we will safely store your bag until after the race.
There are a few road crossings as you leave and return to Meldrum Academy, all of which will be heavily marshalled. However, the roads will not be closed and marshals do not have the authority to stop traffic. The marshals are there to support you, but ultimately it is the responsibility of each and every runner to cross the road safely.
10K - Finishing T Shirt, Medal, Water, Banana other bits and pieces.
Junior Races - Medal and Water
Unfortunately we cannot allow wheel chairs to enter as part of the planned route because the Barra Hill is not suitable and is impassable with a wheel chair. However, if you are a wheel chair user, and you are keen to participate, we would love to accommodate in some way. Please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org and we will work together to create an appropriate route.
Tom Roche - 36.29 (2018)
Ellie Buchan - 40.33 (2018)
We are hugely grateful for the support of our sponsors. Their contributions mean that absolutely all of the money raised from this event’s entry fee, will be going directly to families where there is a child with a terminal diagnosis. Thank you for your support.
